{"id":17110,"date":"2017-12-14T08:44:07","date_gmt":"2017-12-14T00:44:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ssc16.gov.my\/bm\/?p=17110"},"modified":"2017-12-17T08:59:25","modified_gmt":"2017-12-17T00:59:25","slug":"kuching-host-arm-wrestlers-18-countries","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ssc16.gov.my\/bm\/kuching-host-arm-wrestlers-18-countries\/","title":{"rendered":"Kuching to host arm wrestlers from 18 countries"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-17111\" src=\"https:\/\/ssc16.gov.my\/bm\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Arm-Wrestling-Photo-13.12.2017-300x120.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"120\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ssc16.gov.my\/bm\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Arm-Wrestling-Photo-13.12.2017-300x120.jpg 300w, https:\/\/ssc16.gov.my\/bm\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Arm-Wrestling-Photo-13.12.2017.jpg 660w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>KUCHING: Arm wrestlers from 18 countries have confirmed their participation in the inaugural\u00a0Premiere 101 International Charity Arm Wrestling Competition 2018 to be held at Premiere 101 Square, Jalan Tun Jugah on January 19 to 20 next year.<\/p>\n<p>This was announced by Sarawak&#8217;s Minister of Tourism, Arts Culture, Youth and Sports, YB Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah who disclosed the participants are from\u00a0Thailand, Russia, China Indonesia, Malaysia and countries from south east Asia region.<\/p>\n<p>The two-day event is organised by\u00a0Sarawak Armsport Association (Sasa) with the aim to promote arm wrestling among locals as well as to encourage more of the sports fans from overseas to come into Sarawak.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Sasa president Matthew Dominic Barin said arm wrestlers from more than 18 countries have already confirmed their participation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have to admit that I am new to arm wrestling sport and had not heard of it happening here in Kuching, even though I know what the sport is all about,\u201d said YB Datuk Karim while commending SASA\u00a0for organising the event and his\u00a0ministry would support any sports associations in holding tournaments or activities locally.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe all do not want to smear the reputation of the state, the ministry and the association and we must all work together to make sure the event is a success,\u201d he enthused.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, SASA president Matthew Dominic Barin said arm wresting is an old traditional sport and before this there no formal organisation to oversee \u00a0the promotion and development of the sport in Sarawak.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are planning to have more young participants as arm wrestling is a very simple sport. All you need is a table and two opponents.
