KUCHING: The Kuching Elite Wushu Club (KEWC) capped a stellar year with another outstanding performance at the recent 29th Sarawak Wushu Championship at the Sarawak Indoor Stadium in Petra Jaya.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They captured 24 gold, 13 silver and six bronze medals to emerge as overall champions and retained their title in annual tournament organised by the Wushu Federation of Sarawak (WFS).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

KEWC, led by its president Ling Ung Hee, also collected four best performer awards through Dexter Thian Shyan Khai (Boys C nanquan), Chan Kang Wei (Boys C taiji), Bewell Chan Zhi Zui (Boys D nanquan) and Serene Teo Xin Ling (Girls C taiji).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis is our sixth overall champion\u2019s victory this year amid the limitations caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and the athletes have performed very well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cTheir hard work and commitment to training have paid off handsomely and I would like to say a big \u201cThank You\u201d to all athletes, coaches, parents and schools for their continuous strong support,\u201d said Ling who is also WFS vice president.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, Serian Wushu Club finished runners-up after they picked up 10 gold, eight silver and five bronze medals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The club\u2019s Hong Wu Kang was the best performer in Boys D changquan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other best performers in the championship were Amber Tan Ling Xin (Girls C nanquan) and Jasper Phua Yan Kai (Boys C changquan) from Jun Lun Wushu Club, Teo Shi Jing (Girls E changquan), Benjamin Ting (Boys E changquan) and Ronan Chai Voon Hao (Boys E nanquan) from Jun Wei Bintulu Wushu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In third place with six gold, three silver and four medals was Kelab Wushu Jelutong of Sarikei while Jun Lun Wushu Club from Batu Kawa, Kuching was fourth (5-6-1).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jun Wei Bintulu Wushu Club (5-2-1) and Piasau Zhong Hua Wushu of Miri (0-0-1) finished fifth and sixth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Athletes from the Sarawak Sukma Shadow Team, who participated in the meet, captured 19 gold and six silver medals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
